What Mice Eat

Index

Mice are omnivores meaning, like humans they eat both meat and plants. Most mice are primarily herbivore and prefer to eat things like oats, grains, fruits, and seeds, however they will eat almost anything.
Their diet will frequently include a mixture of seeds, fruit, vegetables, fungus, and insects. Some species like the white-foot and grasshopper mouse are omnivorous and will eat mainly insects and sometimes other smaller rodents and are very skilled hunters.
City mice that have adapted to their surroundings are not very picky and will eat just about any food source available. Their main food source is found searching in the trash looking for food scraps.

Mice are often used for medical experiments because they are much like us. Like humans, they are mammals meaning they have warm blood, hair, and give milk and they will also eat the same things that we do. But the idea that mice love cheese is a little bit of a myth. They would much rather have peanut butter. Mice will in fact eat almost anything that we eat and more as you may know when they find a place to stay in your home.

These are a few things they have been found to eat:
apples
apple tree bark
pears
pear tree bark
peaches
peppers
potatoes
tulip bulbs
tomatoes
seeds of any kind...grass seed, pumpkin seeds etc.
oats
corn
wheat
black beans
white beans

cookies (Oreos... if they can get them...)
